‘Mathi’ makes a splash at amateur drama awards

Mathi’, produced by Malayala Kalanilayam, Kannur, has won the State Award for the Best Amateur Drama for 2013.

The award carries a purse of Rs.25,000, a citation and a statuette.

The State Amateur Drama Awards were announced at a press conference here on Tuesday.

‘Bhoomiyude Avakasikal’, produced by Actors’ Theatre, Kochi, has been adjudged the second best play. Manjulan Perunthatta has been selected as the best director for his work in the play, ‘Embryo’.

Rajesh Sharma and Usha have been named the best actor and actress for their performance in the play, ‘Section 302 Murder’. They will get a purse of Rs.10,000, a citation and a statuette each.

Rino Joseph, author of ‘Mathi’, has been selected as the best playwright.

Riyas, author of the play, ‘Ocha’, has been named the second best playwright.

The other awards are as follows: Second best director: James Elia (Bhoomiyude Avakasikal); second best actor: Ranji Kankol, and second best actress: H. Kabani.

Jury members Prashanth Narayanan, Sreejith Ramanan and Suveeran, and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi secretary P.V. Krishnan Nair were present at the press conference.
