Legendary composer K. Raghavan sang for a new collection of Ayyappa devotional songs released recently.

Raghavan Master, as he is popularly known, is 96 years old. He has sung for the album called Karpooram, songs of which are composed and written by Ushanth Thavam. The audio CD of the collection was released at Raghavan Master's home recently.

Mr. Thavam said his maiden album was as much a collection of devotional songs as it was an attempt to re-introduce Raghavan Master's voice, which had mesmerised Malayalis for nearly 50 years.

Raghavan Master's voice has immortalised songs like ‘Kayalarikathu valayerinhappo valakilukkiya sundari' and ‘Appolum paranhille pokanda pokandannu', composed in his characteristic folk style.

Mr. Thavam was a disciple of the ace composer.

The CD was released by Raghavan Master himself by giving a copy to lyricist Mullanezhi.

Actor Sushil Kumar, folk singer Kuttappan and Lalu Sukumaran of the Malayala Kalagramam were among those present at the function.

The other singers of the album include playback singers Unni Menon, G. Venugopal and Vidhu Prathap apart from Kuttappan, Najim Arshad, Chengannur Sreekumar, Lalu Sukumaran, Baby Anne Mariya and Kanakambharan, son of Raghavan Master, Mr. Thavam said.
