After making husbands run carrying their wives at the Shankumugham Beach Thiruvananthapuram, Ecorun India is organising another run, this time a 50 km marathon from Alappuzha to Kottayam, demanding a ban on pesticides.

Titled Ecorun Ultra Marathon, the event will be from Mullackal in Alappuzha to Thirunnakkara in Kottayam via Changanassery from 10.30 a.m. on Saturday. A prize ceremony and public meeting to urge the Central Government to enforce a ban on pesticides will follow at 7 p.m..

Registration for the event will begin at 9 a.m. at the starting point, which is in front of the Mullackal Temple. Registration costs Rs.50 for the event, which will be in three categories, viz., for men aged 35 and above; for women aged 30 and above; and for men and women aged 60 and above. There are five prizes in each category with the first prize to be Rs.20,000, the second prize Rs.10,000, the third prize to be Rs.5,000, the fourth Rs.2,000 and the fifth to be Rs.1,000, according to the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), which is the coordinator for the event.
