Tickling the taste buds of gourmands, a mappila food festival has commenced in the district with the participation of over 50 housewives from various parts of Malabar.Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar inaugurated the festival organised as part of Malabar Maholsav at the Sarovaram bio-park.

Organisers said the festival would offer over 100 exclusive mappila delicacies selected from Kannur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.

Most of them would be disappearing varieties and rarely tasted by the new generation foodies, they added.

Special food courts were also opened on Friday. The entry would be restricted through tickets for Rs.50.

The food courts would be operational from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. For food lovers, special cooking classes would be arranged as part of the programme. To spice up the events, cultural programmes too would be hosted.
