Manju Warrier, actor who essayed some memorable roles in Malayalam movies in the 1990s, staged a comeback to another passion of hers, dance, with a Kuchipudi recital at the Navaratri Dance Festival at Guruvayur on Vijayadashami day on Wednesday.
The versatile artist, who took a break from acting after her marriage with film actor Dileep, was making a public performance after 14 years.
Ms. Warrier, a trained dancer, had bagged many titles in school art festivals before embarking on a successful film career. She was crowned ‘Kalathilakam’ at the State school art festival when she was a class 7 student.
In her return to the stage, Ms. Warrier showcased remarkable grasp of varied aspects of Kuchipudi. Be it the delineation of subtle emotions or vibrant footwork, she displayed her prowess.
Ms. Warrier began her performance at the Melpathur auditorium to a packed audience. Hundreds of fans of the actor, who scorched the silver screen with movies such as ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu,’ ‘Ee Puzhayum Kadannu,’ ‘Summer in Bethlehem,’ and ‘Pathram,’ watched her perform in rapt attention. A thunderous applause erupted when Ms. Warrier concluded with a sprightly Tillana.
She did not fail to thank her friends and well wishers for their overwhelming support. Her family members and many film personalities were present at the programme.
Earlier, Ms. Warrier offered ‘Thulabharam’ at the Guruvayur Sreekrishna temple with ‘kadhali’ (plantain).
She gave a Kuchipudi performance at the Navaratri fete at Guruvayur.
