As many as 150 artistes from various States will perform at the two-day National Folklore Festival to be held at Vorkady near Manjeswaram here from September 23.

The festival, which will be held at the St. Mary’s English Medium School, Kaliyoor, near Vorkady, is being organised jointly by the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, an organization run by the government of India, and Kerala Folklore Akademi. The event aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the participating States, Akademi president B. Mohammed Ahammed told a press conference here on Saturday. The programme would be inaugurated at 6 p.m. on the day by Karnataka Health Minister U.T. Khader as the function would be presided over by organising committee president D.K. Chowta. Prof. Ahammed, E.N. Sajith, Director, South Zone Cultural Centre, P. Karunakaran, MP, P.B. Abdul Razak, MLA, Manjeshwram district panchayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi, and District Collector P.S. Mohammed Sagir would address the inaugural function, he said.

The valedictory function would be presided over by N.A. Nellikkunnu, Kasaragod MLA at 6 p.m. on September 24. Manjeswaram block panchayat president Mumtaz Sameera and State Tulu Academy president B. Subbaraya Pai would also address the function, Prof. Ahammed said.
