Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced after flagging off the ‘Kerala Yatra’ organised by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee here on Thursday evening that a major fishing harbour would be set up at Manjeswaram.

Mr. Chandy said the harbour would be set up in the area at a cost of Rs.48.80 crore.

“The Centre has given approval for the Manjeswaram fishing harbour and steps will be taken to commence the work soon,” he said amid thunderous applauds from the largely attended gathering.

The Chief Minister said the United Democratic Front government had fulfilled the long-cherished dream of the region by setting up a taluk based at Manjeswaram and the harbour would signal the all-round development of the region.
