THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Kochi-bound passenger was off-loaded from an Oman Air flight at the airport here on Tuesday after he smashed the inner layer of the aircraft windowpane and created a ruckus. The incident took place around 8 a.m. on the WY 827 Muscat-Kochi flight, which was diverted here owing to bad weather in Kochi.

Airport sources said the passenger, M.N. Subash Kumar, entered into an altercation with others onboard and the cabin crew. Later, Mr. Kumar smashed the inner layer of the windowpane.

Following this, the commander sought the help of the airport authorities and the CISF personnel rushed to the aircraft and off-loaded Mr. Kumar. Airport sources said the 33-year-old passenger, who hails from Ramapuram, Pala in Kottayam district, was mentally unsound and was under treatment.

The damaged window was rectified by the aircraft maintenance manager and the flight with the remaining 78 passengers left for Kochi by around 9 a.m.

Two flights diverted

The flights of Air-India Express from Sharjah (IX 412) and Abudhabi (IX 452) to Kochi were diverted here in view of the inclement weather, airline sources said. Later, the flights left for the Nedumbaserry airport.
