KOCHI: The City Police have arrested a person on charge of illegally refilling Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders and selling them to hotels in the city. Radhakrishnan of Cheralai was arrested in a joint move by the Shadow Police and the Mattanchery police on Friday.

According to the police, the arrested person was engaged in the business of refilling LPG available for domestic use into cylinders for commercial use. The refilled cylinders were sold to hotels at a higher price. The police have recovered 120 cylinders from the house of the arrested.

The LPG cylinders for domestic use are supplied to the consumers at a subsidised rate by the government. However, commercial consumers have to be pay higher price as there is no subsidy for them. The police took into custody equipment used for the illicit refilling and also a vehicle from the house of the arrested. The police team led by sub-inspector Vijayasankar made the arrest and seizure.

Last week, the police had arrested two persons from Pachalam and Asoka road on similar charges. Several cylinders and gas filling equipment were also seized from them.
