KOCHI: The Ernakulam Town Central Police have arrested Joby, 25, of Kannur in connection with a burglary at Kanjirathinkal Ayyappa Temple at Panathur, Kasaragod. Based on a tip-off received by Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham, the police contacted the accused over the phone, posing as buyers of the idols. They decided to meet after the price was fixed at Rs.5 crore and he was arrested when he turned up. According to the police, the accused joined as employee in a soda factory near the temple to observe the security details. On finding that security is minimal, he hid inside a building under construction near the temple and past midnight, broke open the lock using a pick-axe and entered the sanctum sanctorum. The accused moved to Tamil Nadu and sold the ornaments. — Staff Reporter
