MALAPPURAM: A man hanged himself after reportedly hacking his friend to death at Vadakkemanna near here on Friday night.
Police said that a suicide note left by the man established a link between the two deaths, one of which came to light on Saturday morning. Shihabuddin Cholakunnu, 25, who ran a chicken meat stall at Vadakkemanna, reportedly hacked his friend Jaffar Perunkakkad, 33, at his shop on Friday night and later hanged himself at his home.
Jaffar, who was running a saloon at Vadakkemanna, was last seen going with Shihabuddin to his chicken stall. Shihabuddin went home after closing shop on Friday night, and hanged himself inside the bathroom around 10 p.m.
The murder of Jaffar came to light when a relative of Shihabuddin opened the chicken stall on Saturday morning in order to feed the chicken. Jaffar’s body was found lying in a pool of blood with four deep slits on his neck.
Shihabuddin and Jaffar were friends. The police said the suicide note indicated that Shihabuddin had been disappointed by his marriage, which was proposed by Jaffar. However, the suicide note did not speak anything of the murder, said the police.
