A 36-year-old man admitted to the General Hospital here attempted to hang himself from a tree near the doctors’ room on Sunday morning.

Shaji of Malayinkeezh, near here, was admitted to ward one of the hospital on July 24 following stomach pain. On Sunday morning, a few patients noticed him climbing the tree, and trying to hang himself using his clothes. They alerted the authorities. Fire and Rescue Services personnel and those of the police reached the spot and rescued him. Shaji was given medical treatment.

Psychiatrist T. Sagar, who attended to the patient, said Shaji was stable. He said Shaji, who allegedly had some criminal history, attempted to kill himself fearing he would have to face police questioning.
