KOZHIKODE: The Vellayil police have arrested a person on the charge of forging documents and seals in the name of the Kozhikode tahsildar for purchase of land in Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra.

A special team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police ( North) K.R. Premachandran arrested K. Ahamed Rauf from his residence on Monday afternoon. The police also recovered Rs.7.50 lakh, passport and other documents relating to the forgery from his residence on P.T. Usha Road.

He will be produced before the Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate’s Court-IV on Tuesday.

The police said the Department of Income Tax had recovered forged documents during raids at the residence of Rauf two months ago following a complaint that he had amassed wealth exceeding his known sources of income. The sleuths had later handed over these documents to the city police. Investigators said he had forged five documents in his name, wife, two children and a relative stating that they belonged to the farming community. The accused had submitted the documents to the authorities in Sindhudurg, a tourist district, for purchasing land under subsidised schemes for farmers.

A team of police officers will leave for Sindhudurg to ascertain how many acres Rauf had purchased in the district.
