42-year-old farm to be made a model one: Minister

PATHANAMTHITTA: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran said steps would be taken soon to elevate the State-run duck farm at Niranom near Thiruvalla to a model farm. Mr. Divakaran, accompanied by Transport Minister and local MLA Mathew T. Thomas was talking to reporters during his visit to the farm on Monday.

The Minister said the director of Animal Husbandry Department would prepare a detailed project report on the duck farm development soon.

He said the local self-government institutions too should extend assistance in the government’s efforts to develop the 42-year-old duck farm. Mr. Divakaran said a telephone connection would be allotted to the duck farm.

Various development schemes at the farm would be implemented in two phases. Native knowledge in duck farming should be utilised at the farm, he said.
