Mar Athanasios College For Advanced Studies Thiruvalla (Macfast)is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Saturday.

Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the 10th anniversary celebrations and the second anniversary fete of Radio Macfast-90.4 at Thukalassery on Saturday. Metropolitan Archbishop of Thiruvalla Thomas Mar Coorilos will preside over the programme.

Solar power project

Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed will inaugurate a solar power plant at Macfast on the occasion, making it the State's first solar-powered campus.

M.S. Vallyathan, National Research Professor and a member of the Macfast Governing Board, will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Vallyathan will also release the book, ‘Puthiya Veenjum, Puthiya Kuppiyum' written by Fr. Abraham Mulamoottil, founder-principal of Macfast.

P.J. Kurien, Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha, will release the souvenir brought out in connection with the second anniversary of Radio Macfast-90.4 and Anto Antony, MP, will launch a radio campaign against drug abuse.

Mathew T. Thomas, MLA; Lynda Thomas, municipal chairperson; Fr. Pradeep Vazhatharamalayil, Macfast principal; and Judith Hollows, director, will address the meeting.

Board meeting

According to Fr. Vazhatharamalayil, a meeting of the 20-member governing board of the college will be held in the forenoon. Dr. Vallyathan, M.V. Pylee, former Vice-Chancellor of Cusat, and P. Pushpangadan, former director of the National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, will attend the meeting. Thomas Mar Coorilos, who is the patron of the board, will chair the meeting.
