The 14 {+t} {+h} edition of Malabar Mahotsavam, the annual tourism festival of Kozhikode, will be held from February 11 to 15 at six venues in the city. The festival will be known as Malabar-Arabia-China Festival (MAC Fest) this year, and feature Arabian countries and China that had trade and cultural links with the region from time immemorial.

District Collector P.B. Salim told presspersons here on Thursday that the festival was an attempt to remind the new generation of the cultural past and history of the region and to let them imbibe the good message.

The festival will be inaugurated by Industries Minister Elamaram Karim at 6.30 p.m. at the beach open stage. A Chinese acrobatic show and a concert by Raghu Dixit are the main programmes for the opening day. A 10-member team from China will present various programmes on all the five days of the festival. An Arabian team will present programmes on February 13, 14 and 15. Martial art forms will also be displayed on the open stage from February 12 to 14.

The major entertainment programmes at the main venue include a mandolin concert by Sukoto Bhandori; Qawwal Sufi Rath by Ustad Ahsan Khan and Adil Hussain Khan Warsi; concert by Javed Ali; and a drama, Badarul Muneer Husnul Jamal by Chirantana Theatre, Kozhikode.

Carnatic vocal concerts by Bhagath Sundar, Konhakudi M. Balamuraleekrishna and Bharatnatyam by Seetha Sasidharan will be held at the Padmasree auditorium on February 12, 13 and 14 respectively.

Besides entertainment programmes, MAC Fest also features a cultural heritage exhibition on the exhibition grounds on the beach on all the five days. A literary festival will be held at Town Hall. A seminar on Malabar and Arabia, seminar on Malabar and China and a seminar on the literature of the three countries will be held on February 11, 14 and 15 respectively.

A Malabar-Arabia-China film festival will be held at the New Nalanda auditorium while folk art forms will be performed at the Model Higher Secondary School on February 12 and 14. Besides, a Malabar-Arabia-China food festival will be held till February 20 at Lions Park.

The six venues of the festival are named befitting its theme.

The beach open stage is named Zamorin's Sannidhi after the Zamorin rulers who were largely responsible for the establishment of Kozhikode city while the Padmasree auditorium is named as Pattathana Sannidhi after the annual scholarly debate held at the Tali temple, patronised by the Zamorins.

Town Hall is named after Chinese sailor Zheng He while the Model HSS stage is named after Ma Huan, a historian who accompanied Zheng He.

The beach exhibition ground is named after Afro-Arab sailor Ibn Battuta while New Nalanda auditorium is named after Abdur Razzak, who was the Persian ambassador to Kozhikode in the 15 {+t} {+h} century.
