THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority will observe September 8 to 14 as non-formal education week.

A statement issued by the authority here on Saturday said that a host of programmes under the motto ‘Kerala towards lifelong education’ will be held across the State.

As many as 50 select neo-literates will meet Education Minister M.A. Baby at his official residence on September 8. The inauguration of the non-formal education week celebrations will be held in Kollam on September 9.

Mr. Baby will inaugurate the programme while Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan will preside over the function.

Seminars, debates, discussions and exhibitions will be held as part of the programme.

On September 14, literacy rallies will be held in all districts. As part of the closing ceremony, a seminar on ‘India towards total literacy, Kerala towards total equivalence’ will be held at the VJT Hall in the city. Awards for the best literacy / continuing education programmes instituted by the mission will be presented by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan at the closing ceremony function.
