Labour Minister Shibu Baby John will present on Saturday a lifetime achievement award, instituted by the Kalabharathi Foundation for Indian Culture and Heritage, to veteran Carnatic vocalist Thrissur R. Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar.
Labour Minister Shibu Baby John will also launch ‘Ashraya Nidhi’, a fund for veteran artistes.
A two-day dance workshop organised by the foundation concluded on Friday. Dancer Rajashree Warrier led the workshop. Aparna Marar-Shebeer presented a programme of Hindustani compositions, ghazals and bhajans.
Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar will inaugurate on Saturday a six-day dance festival being organised by the foundation that features young performers.
The meeting will be followed by Mohiniyattam recitals by Rachana Narayanankutty and Meera Sreenarayanan, and a Kuchipudi performance by Pratheeksha Kashi.
The other programmes are: April 28: Kathak by Ruhi Masodkar, Nagpur; Bharathanatyam by Nrithya Pillai, Chennai, Mohiniyattam by RLV Ramakrishnan and Odissi by Moumitha Ghosh, New Delhi; April 29: Kuchipudi by Sneha; Bharathanatyam by Gowri Sagar; Manipuri by Surajit Deb Barma, Tripura; Bharathanatyam, led by Chatura Gamini; April 30: Bharathanatyam by Kianmayee Madupu, Hyderabad; Mohiniyattam by Saji Menon, Mumbai; Bharathanatyam by Manju V. Nair.
