The Kollam Additional District and Sessions Judge S. Santosh Kumar sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life three persons who were found guilty of a murder committed on Christmas night in 2004 at Ambalamkunnu junction in the district.

A fine of Rs.1 lakh each has been slapped on them. Failure to pay the fine will invite an additional prison term of two years. Shahnavas, 32, Abdul Salim, 32, and Shiju, 36, were found guilty of murdering Ranjith, 27.

Rs.2 lakh for widow

The judge also pronounced that Rs.2 lakh from the fine should be given to Ranjith’s widow. Two more accused in the case, Najim and Thajuddin, are still at large. Accused number 6 in the case, Azad Shaji, has been acquitted.

Albert P. Netto who prosecuted the case said Najim was the first accused in the case, and Ranjit was fatally attacked in retaliation for assaulting Najim. Amar Prashant appeared as assistant public prosecutor for the case.
