District Sessions Judge B. Sudheendra Kumar on Tuesday sentenced a 50-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for life after he was found guilty of threatening, and repeated rape of his stepdaughter.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs.3 lakh on the convict, Asokan. The amount, if realised, will be paid as compensation to the victim. If the convict failed to pay the fine, he would have to serve an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment.
The prosecution case was that the accused, Asokan, had raped the girl, a B.Ed. student, first on February 16, 2007 after threatening to kill her. The victim is his wife’s daughter from her first marriage.
He had married the victim’s mother when the girl was three years old. Both daughter and mother had been under his protection ever since. The case came to light when the student’s hostel warden noticed changes in the girl’s constitution. When confronted, the victim broke down and said that her stepfather had repeatedly raped her and impregnated her. The warden reported the matter to the police.
