Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Pannian Ravindran has said the Independents fielded by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the Lok Sabha elections are candidates with high winning chance.

Participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Press Club here on Friday, the CPI leader said fielding Independents was not new in State politics and many had successfully made it to the Lok Sabha. Denying that the CPI had fielded a lightweight candidate Bennet Abraham against Union Minister Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram, the CPI leader said KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran should have avoided comments that it was a payment seat. “He is a CPI fellow traveller, was a PSC member.”
