S.D. Shibulal, CEO and MD of Infosys, said the greatest challenge he has been facing in life is the process of learning, which never stops.

Speaking at a function organised to present scholarships to students under the banner of Sarojini-Damodaran Foundation, founded by him in memory of his parents, Mr. Shibulal said what he learned at Infosys during the first five years became obsolete after that.

“Every year one has to re-orient the skills one acquires. If you want to progress in life, achieve something in life, you have to learn always,” he said. He narrated a small incident from his childhood which left an indelible mark on his mind. As a child, he was reluctant to have breakfast before going to school. So his mother would ensure that he at least had a glass of milk. “But my mother used to keep three glasses of milk so that two of my friends who used to accompany me to school, would also get a drink. This might have been a trick played by my mother to make me drink my glass of milk, but it left an indelible mark on my mind. Parents have tremendous influence on children,” he told the gathering which comprised students and parents.

During the interaction with students, he said that he had multiple role-models. His role model in leadership is N.R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys, and in strategy it is Nandan M. Nilekani, former CEO of Infosys.
