Teachings of Swami Vivekananda and his great master Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa have got much relevance in the modern age of value erosion, P.N. Narendranathan Nair, president, Nair Service Society, has said. He was presiding over a souvenir release function held in connection with the centenary celebrations of the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram at Thukalasserry, near Thiruvalla, on Tuesday.

He said the Sri Ramakrishna Ashram at Thukalasserry had been disseminating the message of love, peace, prosperity and nation-building rooted in India’s rich spiritual tradition in and around Thiruvalla for the past 100 years.

Delivering the benedictory speech, Swami Samagrananda, senior monk of the Sri Ramakrishna order, called upon the people, especially youth, to come forward and learn the teachings of the two great spiritual leaders. He said the serene Ashram premises at Thukalasserry was open for all spiritual seekers.

Swami Golokananda, Ashram president, welcomed the gathering and J. Prameeladevi, State Women’s Commission member, delivered the keynote address.

Swami Samagrananda released the souvenir brought out in connection with the year-long centenary celebrations of the Ashram by handing over its first copy to G. Ramavama Thampuran, eldest member of the Paliyekkara royal family, on the occasion. Appu Joseph Chacko made a Powerpoint presentation on Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and teachings. The programme came to a close with Upanishad chanting by Swami Vinischidananda.
