Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi has said that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is bidding to topple the government using religious factors in the Piravom byelection.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr. Ravi said “LDF leaders visiting religious heads of various churches shows how different they are in their words and actions.”

The Piravom byelection being crucial to the government, both the political fronts were using their prowess to win — the government to keep its stability and the Opposition to bring it down, he said.

However, the LDF tactic to force its way into the issues relating to Church feuds would not work here, he said.

In reply to a question whether all the Congressmen would support the UDF candidate Anoop Jacob this time unlike last time when his late father T.M. Jacob had just managed to scrape through with 157 votes, Mr. Ravi said he was not aware that all did not support last time.

“Anyway, people in a household will not always quarrel, they get together too,” he said.
