Close on the heels of the Cabinet decision to order a judicial inquiry into the solar panel scam, the government has written to the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) seeking its proposals regarding the terms of reference of the probe.
Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan wrote to LDF convener Vaikom Viswan on Saturday requesting him to communicate to the government the Opposition’s views, if any, on the terms of reference.
The Home Minister also told the LDF convener that the government would be ready for a discussion on the subject if the Opposition was ready for talks. If the Opposition was ready for talks, it should also communicate a possible date to the government, Mr. Radhakrishnan said in his letter.
Simultaneously, the Chief Secretary wrote to the High Court Registrar General seeking the services of a sitting judge to carry out the probe.
In a separate but related development, Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan held consultations with CPI(M) leaders in Delhi and reportedly secured clearance to go in for legal steps to get Chief Minister Oommen Chandy arraigned in the case.
