The Swathantra Thozhilali Union (STU), Muslim League’s trade union arm, has criticised Labour Minister Shibu Baby John for filling up welfare boards solely with representatives of his own party, the Revolutionary Socialist Party.
STU State president Ahammed Unnikulam and general secretary M. Rahmatullah said on Friday the Minister had unilaterally reconstituted the welfare boards with his own party men.
The welfare boards for headload and construction workers and the Cashew Development Corporation were headed by his party men. “The Minister has flouted the convention of granting representation to trade unions on these boards. When he took charge he had claimed he would bring a new glow and glamour to his department. But by his arbitrary actions the Labour Department is losing what ever glamour it had.”
The STU leaders said they would eradicate ‘nokkukooli’ and put pressure on the Central and State governments to give representation to workers in management. The STU would also oppose all anti-worker policies of the government.
