THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Personnel of the Vigilance and Anti-water theft squad of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) on Monday disconnected unauthorised water connections at three premises in the city.

The connections at a villa complex and an apartment complex at AKG Nagar were found to predate the construction of the flats and apartments at the site. “One or more water connections may have been given to the previous owners of these plots of land. The apartment builder just extended this to his sump,” a KWA official said.

Superintending engineer of the KWA K.P. Krishnakumar said connections to flats must be laid using six inch pipes. For this the builder would have had to lay a line from Peroorkada junction to the AKG Nagar siteAt a commercial complex at Statue, the KWA squad found that one water connection was being shared by the complex and by a medical store nearby. Records available with the KWA, however, showed no such connection at that site.

As many as four individual water connections were also disconnected on Monday.
