NEDUMBASSERY: The Kuwait-based private low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways launched direct commercial flight operations to the Cochin International Airport on Wednesday.

The airline's first flight from Kuwait touched down at the airport at the scheduled time of 4.10 p.m. with 105 passengers on board. The launch was marked by a simple function with Shriram Bharath, managing director of Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), receiving the passengers and flight crew by presenting them bouquets and garlands. Airport director A.C. K. Nair, representatives of various airlines, Customs and Emigration officials and other senior officials of the airport company were present. The airline was represented by its Country Manager (India) Sanjay. K. Jha. The flight returned with 125 passengers at 5.10 p.m.

A formal function in connection with the launch would be arranged on a later date, sources said. The airline will operate three services in a week Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the Kuwait-Kochi-Kuwait sector. The flight is scheduled to arrive here at 4.10 p.m. and will return after an hour.

The airline has deployed an Airbus-320 model aircraft. There will be 147 economy class seats and 12 business class seats on offer. It is the 20th scheduled airline and the 11th foreign airline to operate out of Kochi airport.
