: As part of measures to empower rural women, the Wayanad district Kudumbasree mission will soon launch a novel project named ‘A Woman Reporter in each Panchayat’.

Under the project, select Kudumabasree workers would be given training in various aspects of journalism to mould them to become community reporters, said P.P. Muhammed, coordinator, district Kudumbasree mission.

The services of trained community reporters would be utilised to prepare reports, news, and features for the district Kudumbasree Mission as well as the Community Development Societies (CDS) of the mission at grama panchayat levels, he said.

Mr. Muhammed said a directory of community reporters would be published soon. We will give them five-day residential training, he added.

He said community reporters can actively intervene to resolve problems faced by women in rural areas, especially among the marginalised sections of people..

He said the mission proposed to provide honorarium to reporters after the completion of their training.

As many as 26 members, each member from a CDS, have been selected for the purpose.

A one-day workshop will be held at the Kudumbasree mission Auditorium here on Monday. E. Sajeev, district

Information officer, will inaugurate the workshop.

Experts will lead classes on various aspects of journalism at the workshop.
