The 51 {+s} {+t} Kozhikode Revenue District School Arts Festival started in the city on Sunday with Deputy Director of Education K.Vinod Babu hoisting the flag at St. Joseph's Boys' Higher Secondary School.

Zamorin's Higher Secondary School hosted the off-stage events.

However, the official inauguration of the festival will be held on Monday. A colourful procession as part of the event will begin from the Malabar Christian College grounds at 2.45 p.m.

People's representatives and around 3,000 students will take part in the procession which will feature floats and art forms.

Prices will be given for the best float, best art form in all the three sections.

Litterateur U.A. Khader will formally inaugurate the festival at St. Joseph's Boys' Higher Secondary School at 4 p.m. Kathakali exponent Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair will be the chief guest while Mayor A.K.Premajam will preside over the function.

An exhibition ‘Odyssia Malayanma' will be inaugurated by MLA P.T.A. Rahim.

Artists in the district are creating a huge canvas on the theme ‘we are with you' as part of the inaugural function.

Sixteen artists will paint on a huge cloth bag to express condolence over the Endosulfan tragedy and support the mission to make the district plastic-waste-free. Several celebrities will add their signature to the canvas.

The stage events of the festival will begin on Monday. The events will be held at various stages at St. Joseph's Anglo-Indian Girls' Higher Secondary School, St. Angela's U.P. School, St. Antony's U.P. School, Himayathul Islam Higher Secondary School, Sri Gujarathi Vidyalaya, Gandhi Griham, St. Joseph's Junior School, Mananchira Square and the NGO Union hall.
