Meeting of police officers today

PATHANAMTHITTA: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan reached the Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Wednesday evening to review security arrangements at the pilgrim centre in the backdrop of the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.

The Minister reached Pampa by 7 p.m. and trekked the Neelimala and Appachimedu to reach the Sannidhanam at 8.30 p.m. Travancore Devaswom Board Chief Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary K. Jayakumar, Director-General of Police (DGP) Jacob Punnoose, Additional DGP P. Chandrashekharan, Inspector-General A. Hemachandran and Superintendent of Police K.K. Chellappan accompanied the Minister.

Mr. Balakrishnan visited the vehicle parking lots at Nilackal and Pampa before proceeding to the Sannidhanam. He inspected the police barracks and various security points.

Devaswom Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran is expected to reach Sabarimala soon, according to Mr. Jayakumar.

The Home Minister will chair a meeting of police officials at the Devaswom Administrative Complex at Sannidhanam at 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Curbs on mobile phones

Mobile phones will not be permitted at the Sannidhanam on December 5 and 6. Devaswom Executive Officer V.S. Jayakumar said pilgrims should leave their mobile phones and other electronic equipment at the special counter at Valiyanadappanthal, near the electricity board office. Receipts will be issued.
