Exhibitions, food festivals and cultural shows will mark the event being held at three venues.

KOCHI: The District Administration and the District Tourism Promotion Council are joining hands to present a cultural extravaganza to usher in the New Year.

Titled ‘Winter Splashes 2008’, the Christmas-New Year week celebration will begin on December 24. Exhibitions, food festivals and cultural shows will mark the festival being held at three venues – Marine Drive, Durbar Hall Ground and Children’s Park.

The food festival will be the main highlight of the festival at Marine Drive.

A wide choice of cakes will feature in the Baker’s Fest, while ice-cream corner, snacks corner, Thai Food Festival and fruityard will be other specialities of the venue.

The Marine Drive venue will also have nearly 300 stalls promoting tourism and related exhibits. Cultural programmes will be held at the helipad on evenings.

Film actors Kavya Madhavan and Ramya Nambisan will present dances. Ghazal by Shahabaz Aman and Gayatri, performance by playback singer Sreenivas, instrumental fusion by Balabhaskar and Mattannur Sankarankutty and flute recital by Raj Krishnan are other highlights of the cultural evenings.

The Durbar Hall ground will also have cultural programmes like carol competition, Rock n’ Roll fest, cinematic dance eve, mimics competition and band competition.

Children’s Park will have exhibition exclusively themed for children, featuring toys, books and also those by schools. The venue will also have competitions for children, like smile competition and Baby Prince-Baby Princess competition.

The district administration has also announced a ‘clean residents association’ competition and awards for best-decorated shops in the city.
