Every large and growing city has its own signature event with the participation of its denizens in large numbers. Examples are Marathon in Mumbai, Dushara in Mysore, Dandiya in Ahmedabad, Durga Pooja in Kolkata, Ramlila in Delhi etc. Kochi Walkathon with the theme KOCHI ALIVE is one such event that has come into existence in our city for the past 3 years.
Started in 2007 by Kerala Management Association as a part of the management day celebrations, Kochi Walkathon has grown in stature of an event showing the vibrancy of the Queen of Arabian city. Having gained immense popularity, Kochi Walkathon is being looked forward to by the people during the month of February-March, to partake in it. This year’s Walkathon is scheduled on 1st March 2009.
Leading dignitaries from different walks of life, be it politics, business, sports, arts, culture and entertainment; are participating in the same. The Walkathon will be flagged off at 6 am from the Durbar Hall ground at Kochi and will take the route of MG Road, Banerji Road, Marine Drive, Shanmugham Road and Durbar Hall Road before returning to Durbar Hall ground, the place of its origin.
Being a competitive event with prize money exceeding Rupees One Lakh, it has different category for participants such as children, adults and veterans separately for men and women.
Life Insurance Corporation of India is exclusively associating with the event as a sponsor.
