A 21-year-old youth, accused of kidnapping and hiding a minor girl for six months, was arrested by the Crime Branch from Tirupur, near Coimbatore, on Friday.

A press release said Renjith Row, a native of Nellikakuzhi, Kanjiramkulam, was arrested from a hideout in Tirupur where he had been holed up, along with the girl, for over six months.

The girl’s father had filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, and the local police, which failed to find her even after six months of her going missing, had come in for criticism from the court. The case was then transferred to the Crime Branch, where a special team supervised by Additional Director-General of Police Vinson M. Paul traced Renjith.

The accused was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
