THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Government will form an audit commission, comprising senior officials, to coordinate and monitor auditing of local self-government institutions by various agencies, Minister for Finance T. M. Thomas Isaac said here on Tuesday.

Replying to questions in the Assembly in the absence of Minister for Local Administration Paloli Mohammed Kutty, he said now the accounts were being audited by Accountant-General (Audit), Local Fund Audit and Performance Audit Wing. Lapses in the performance audit would be rectified and regulations framed to strengthen the social audit system. To complete the auditing system in a time-bound manner, an audit timetable would be drawn up and the Local Fund Audit strengthened. Punitive steps would be taken against those who impeded the process by delaying replies to the audit officials.
