THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the State capital celebrates theatre with a week-long festival, an experimental theatre group of Kerala has brought home seven awards from the prestigious Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) festival held in New Delhi from March 2 to 7.

‘Spinalcord', a play staged by Thrissur-based ‘Oxygen' has won the awards for the best play, best director, best stage design and best choreography (Deepan Sivaraman), best actor (Gopalan), best supporting actor (James Elia) and best light designer (Jose Koshy). ‘Oxygen', a new experimental theatre group, has as its objective productions in collaboration with artists from the disciplines of theatre, painting, sculpture etc.Director Deepan Sivaraman is a visual artist, writer, scenographer and director.

‘Spinalcord'is being staged on March 17 in the city.
