The Government of Kerala is bent upon demolishing the Mullaperiyar dam by instilling fear in the minds of people, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko said here on Monday.
“In the name of constructing a new dam, the Kerala government is trying to demolish the existing dam to deprive Tamil Nadu of its right,” he said.
“If a new dam is constructed, Tamil Nadu will not get any water,” he said in a statement.
The existing dam was the ‘strongest in India' and the 200-feet base was the longest, he said. The Kerala government was sing a ‘fear psychosis' tactic to seek the construction of a new dam, Mr. Vaiko said.
The Centre had been siding with Kerala instead of protecting the rights of Tamil Nadu, the statement said.
Mr. Vaiko said he had received reports that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, and Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P. Nedumaran were burnt in effigy in several places in Kerala. MDMK supporters should not resort to any retaliation, he said. — PTI
