The Election Commission is keeping a close watch on the amounts being spent by political parties and candidates for campaigning in Ernakulam district.

Political parties are taking extra care not to go overboard while spending money for the campaign.

Observers are touring all the Assembly constituencies in the district to generally oversee poll arrangements and specially to take stock of the way funds are being spent for the campaign.

The Election Commission has also appointed officials for helping the Observers in charge of analysing the expenditure incurred by political parties.

Candidates and political parties have to submit details of their expenditure every three days to these officials. Observers have the powers to go through the records and verify whether candidates have violated the poll guidelines on expenditure.
