Agriculture Minister K. P. Mohanan will launch here on Tuesday a portal on agriculture developed by the Centre for e-learning (CeL) under the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU).
The agricultural advisory-cum decision-support systems developed by CeL include KAU Fertulator, E-Crop Doctor and E-Karshaka Jalakam (E-Kisaan knowledge portal).
The CeL has been set up to tap the potential of information communication technology (ICT) for enhancing agricultural productivity, and strengthening research, extension activities and transfer of technology.
It helps farmers, extension agents, researchers, students and everyone who has an interest in farming, said P. V. Balachandran, Director of Extension, KAU.
T. R. Gopalakrishnan, Director of Research, KAU, said that the portal is an agricultural technology hub that makes available all the technologies evolved by the agricultural research system in the State.
This ICT-enabled tool provides stakeholders with information on major crops of the State.
“It will be of great help to farmers in diagnosing and solving problems in the field. The tools are made available in English and Malayalam,” he said.
The CeL plans to hold e-courses in organic farming, processing of fruits and vegetables and plant propagation. It also plans to set up an Advanced Tele Farm Call Centre, Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) and a Research Management Information System (RMIS) for the benefit of farmers and agri-scientists.
