Karunya to help renal patients

The State government will take measures to extend the benefits of the Karunya Benevolent Scheme to patients with chronic renal diseases, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a dialysis centre of the Snehasparsham Kidney Patients Welfare Society in the Specialty Block of the Government Medical College Hospital here on Monday. He said steps would be taken to sanction a linear accelerator.

District panchayat president and chairperson of the society K. Jameela, who presided over the function, said the dialysis unit would render free service.

District Collector K.V. Mohan Kumar, Medical College Superintendent P. Muraleedharan Namboothiri, and the sponsors of nine of the 10 dialysis machines, P.K. Hussein, chairman of the Dr. K.P. Hussein Charitable Trust, and P.K. Ahamed, industrialist, were present.
