Kochi: Former Kerala Chief Minister K. Karunakaran on Thursday filed an affidavit in the Kerala High Court alleging that LDF Government's decision to continue prosecution against him in the palmolein case was politically motivated.

He also alleged that his ministry had followed similar procedures adopted by other States in the import of pamolein. Cabinet had approved the decision.

Earlier, the State Vigilance department had filed an affidavit claiming that there was no mala fide or political vendetta in the matter.

The case will be heard on January 24. Vigilance had registered the case against Mr. Karunakaran and others in connection with the import of palmolein to the State. The previous UDF Government decided to withdraw the case against Mr. Karunakaran. After the LDF came to power last year, it was decided to continue prosecution proceedings against all the accused.
