Shyamala, 34, wife of Thyparambil Rajan, a Congress worker and former member of the Peringalam panchayat, was injured as a bomb hurled at their house exploded at Pookom in the Chokli police station limits here on Sunday. The police said she had been admitted to a hospital in Thalassery.
Prajesh Thottathil, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Iritty, and Rajeevan and Abdul Nasar, constables from the Iritty police station, were attacked at Iritty in the evening. The police said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers threw a bomb at the police personnel when they were chasing a vehicle on a tip-off that weapons were being carried in it. The injured have been admitted to hospital.
The incident followed protests over the attack on a parked car of the sangh's district secretary, Aralam Sajeevan, at Kelanpeedika in the Iritty police station limits.
