KANNUR: Arrangements are under way for the five-day Kannur Mahotsavam to be organised under the aegis of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) with the public's participation from January 7.
District Collector K.S. Srinivas, chairman of the organising committee, said at a press conference here on Saturday that the festival would be formally inaugurated at the Collectorate maidan here.
The festival would be held in seven venues till January 11, he said.
Mr. Srinivas said a painting competition would be held at Sreepuram auditorium on January 1 in connection with the event.
An exhibition, football match between Kannur University and Kannur police teams will be held at police maidan on January 2. Beach volley matches will be conducted on the Payyambalam beach on January 3 and 4.
A film song competition will be organised here on January 5, he said.
A cultural evening programme will be organised at the Stadium Corner here on January 8, 9 and 10. A photo exhibition, organised by the Kerala Folklore Akademi and the Press Club here, will begin at the Town Hall on January 7.
The inaugural function on the same day would be followed by cultural programmes. Various cultural events will be held on each day during the festival at the main venue, Collectorate maidan.
A ganamela by M.G. Sreekumar on January 11 evening will mark the culmination of the festival.
