PATHANAMTHITTA: The Kalabhabhishekom marking the culmination of the Neyabhishekom ritual during the two-month-long annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival was performed at Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala on Thursday.

Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, assisted by Melsanthi E. EeswaranNamboodiri, performed the Kalabhapuja at the Namaskara Mandapam of the temple prior to the `utchapuja.'

The `kalabhom' (sandal paste) was carried in a gold urn in a procession to the accompaniments of the sacred `Marappani' and other temple orchestra for the Abhishekom.

The Kalabhabhishekom ritual was supervised by the representative of the Pandalam Palace, Anilkumar Varma.

The customary procession, Ezhunellathu, from the adjoining Malikappuram Devi Temple was also held on Thursday evening.

The Guruti ritual to propitiate the Bhoothagana of Lord Ayyappa will be held at Malikappuram after the closure of the Ayyappa shrine on Friday evening.

The Ayyappa Temple will be opened for about 10 minutes at 7 a.m. on Saturday to facilitate the customary exclusive darshan for the royal representative.

Devotees will not be permitted to enter the temple precincts on Saturday.

The Ayyappa Temple will be closed soon after the customary holy darshan by the royal designate and the Thiruvabharanam will be taken out in a procession back to the Pandalam Palace.
