Azhikode threatens fast from tomorrow

THRISSUR: The Government will meet representatives of the Kainur Joint Action Council on Wednesday to discuss the alleged enviromental problems caused by the Pig-Breeding Centre run by the Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLDB) at Kainur, near here.

The Joint Action Council has demanded the closure or relocation of the Kainur farm. Writer Sukumar Azhikode had planned a hunger strike from January 1 to highlight the demands of the action council. The hunger strike was put off after the Government invited the council for talks.

Prof. Azhikode has threatened to launch an indefinite hunger strike from January 5 if the Government does not solve the Kainur issue.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Agriculture Minister K. R. Gouri and Speaker Therambil Ramakrishnan will meet representatives of the action council on Wednesday.

A mass satyagraha will be held at Kainur on Wednesday by the action council to press its demand.
