KOTTAYAM: Niyama Sahaya Vedi, a Thrissur-based legal activists' group, has threatened to initiate legal action against Public Works Minister P.J. Joseph for the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Maitri Housing Scheme when he was the Minister in charge of housing in the Nayanar Ministry.

According to Stephen Rozario, spokesman for the Vedi, the malpractices in the implementation of the scheme were the core reason for the current resource crunch in the Kerala State Housing Board and it was imperative on the part of Mr. Joseph to step down taking responsibility for corruption, he said.

Mr. Rozario also said that his organisation would extend all possible legal support to KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, if Mr. Joseph went ahead with his decision to launch defamatory proceedings against Mr. Chennithala.
