The Jacobite group on Monday filed a review petition in the Kerala High Court against a judgment upholding the Ernakulam District and Sessions Court’s order that Fr Jacob Kurien, the Orthodox faction vicar of the St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church, Kolenchery, is entitled to the keys of the church.

A Bench of Justice T. R. Ramachandran Nair and A.V. Ramakrishna Pillai had passed the judgment while disposing of an appeal against the sessions court ruling.

In the review petition, Mathew Yohannan and another Jacobite faction leader said there was an error in the judgment which held that the Supreme Court had approved the finding of the High Court that individual parish churches were not independent churches and that the parish churches were constituent part of the Malankara church.

The Sessions Court had held that the 1995 Supreme Court judgment had approved the 1934 Constitution of the church .The apex court verdict was applicable to the Kolenchery church as well, the Bench had said.
