A team of forest officials, on Friday, arrested five more youths in connection with an ivory deal at Kallur in the district.

Those arrested were Anzil, 18, of Karakkulam; Sajeer, 20, of Athippuram; Haris, 20, of Mambadath; Fayas, 19, of Puthanchalil; and Ajith, 21, of Kalledukkumpoil at Muthanaga.

A team led by A.K. Gopalan, Assistant Wildlife Warden, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, had arrested three youths at Sulthan Bathery on Thursday evening while they were allegedly transporting a tusk weighing 5 kg from Kallur to Kozhikode in a car. Mr. Gopalan said the five accused also had a major role in the transaction.

The accused told officers that the tusk had been handed over to them by a tribesman called Maran at Muthanga, Mr. Gopalan said adding that the former was absconding after the incident. The accused would be produced in the First Class Judicial Magistrate Court at Sulthan Bathery, he added.
