DCC to hand over the post of Wayanad district panchayat president
KALPETTA: The District Congress Committee (DCC) has agreed to hand over the post of Wayanad district panchayat president to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) as per an agreement reached between the two parties on September 19, 2009 on seat-sharing, said district secretary of the IUML C. Mammooty.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the DCC gave this assurance after a meeting of the IUML district executive here on Monday.
As per a written agreement between the two parties, the post of district panchayat president would be shared by each party for a tenure of six months.
Though the tenure of the Congress had ended on March 15, it was yet to hand over the post to the IUML, he said.
In such a situation, the IUML gave an ultimatum to the DCC. The DCC president has promised to hand over charge on May 28, he said.
If the DCC does not honour its word, the IUML would take stringent measures, he said. At present, the UDF has 10 seats — 7 of the Congress, 2 of IUML and 1 of Janata Dal (S) — in the 16-member panchayat board.
