Condemns police action at Cheriathura

Seeks action against police personnel

Executive panel to decide future course of action

KOZHIKODE: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will organise meetings in all district headquarters on June 6 to protest against the violent incidents and subsequent police firing which killed six persons at Cheriathura in Thiruvananthapuram.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the State office-bearers of the IUML here on Wednesday. The United Democratic Front (UDF) and the IUML on its own would provide relief to the families of the victims.

It said the police action against ‘innocent’ people at Cheriathura was ‘most condemnable.’ There was mystery behind the police firing on the crowd without following any procedures prior to that.

The police which was unable to stop a criminal and the State government which controls the police were responsible for the killings. The party said there was ‘ulterior motive’ behind the attempt to portray the incident as a communal clash when it was not.

Cases of murder should be taken against the policemen responsible for the incident. It demanded public protest against the ‘State-sponsored’ terrorism. The IUML would continue its protest and the two-day meeting of the executive committee in the second week of June would take further decisions on the agitation, it said.

M.P. Abdusamad Samadhani will inaugurate the protest in Kozhikode. T.A. Ahamed Kabeer will inaugurate a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram and C.T. Ahmmedali, MLA, in Ernakulam. Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal will inaugurate the protest in Malappuram.
